  • South American Explorer's Club Anyone going to South America for more than a weeklong vacation should consider joining this organization. They have loads of trip reports, information, clubhouses with MORE information and advice, and a newsletter with MORE information. See you at the clubhouse.
  • Louisiana Bird Resource Center The bird center is part of the LSU Museum of Natural Science. There are several citizen-science projects for Louisiana birders. Check it out!

  • Institute for Bird Populations  I can’t say enough about this organization. I worked five seasons with IBP and can honestly say that I now understand the Pyle Guide to North American Birds. David DeSante started this non-profit to begin the long and arduous process of collecting the vital rates for the migratory songbirds of North America. It has expanded to include all sorts of great projects.
  • Eagle Optics This family-owned business has a wide selection of birding optics and gear.
  • American Birding Association The ABA has many great programs and they support them in part by their on-line store. Their prices are comparable to Eagle Optics with the added value that the profit margin supports bird conservation.
  • Patagonia This is the business model that, if adopted by the rest of the business world, would change the world. If you shop here, you can help send a message the rest of the business world understands.
  • Coastal Bend Wildlife Photo Contest A regional photography contest that raises awareness and money for wildlife in the Coastal Bend of Texas. This is a great group of volunteers making a difference.
