Proposal (695) to South American Classification Committee

Add Bangsia arcaei to the Main List

Effect on South American CL: This would add a species to the Main List.

Background: The species has been recently recorded for the first time in Colombia, which also represents the first records for South America:

The Blue-and-gold Tanager Bangsia arcaei, previously only known from Costa Rica and Panama, was recorded for the first time in Colombia and South America during a 2008 expedition along the eastern flank of the Cerro Takarkuna of the Serranía del Darién.  Both photographic and specimen documentation were obtained during the expedition and published in Ornitología Colombiana.

Recommendation: I would recommend a yes vote to add this species to the South American checklist.
