Morning Humnuts,
This question is directed to
the more horticulturally inclined on the
list. Do Justicia aurea propagate by seeds?
I have never seen seeds on the
one I have [from Ron Rovansek], but another
plant has come up about 4 feet from the original. Would
this likely be
from seed or from an underground runner?

Nancy,
I don't think justicia aurea (at least the plant I gave you that
I called
justicia aurea) sprouts long stolons or rizomes or otherwise spreads
a long
way vegetatively. My plants have slowly increased in size, but
never spread
far. I have never noticed seed either, but that is my guess at
the source
of your plants. The new plant might also be a sprouted piece that
was cut
or broken from the original plant - pieces root pretty easily.
I think justicia aurea is a great
plant, and hummers like it. I have seen
the same plant grown out here in CA and called by the same latin
name.
